Christopher Wappel

Senior School Math & Engineering Technology Teacher
How do you continue learning in your life? What is your professional passion?
I’m passionate about lifelong learning, and especially when it relates to all things “Tech”. Teaching Computer Engineering and heading up the extra-curricular Senior School Robotics program has me constantly researching the latest technological advances. I can often be found watching videos and reading up on what’s new on the tech scene, and the goal is to try and somehow incorporate my learning into my teaching and extra-curriculars.

What is one of your most memorable teaching moments?
There are too many in-class memories to choose from, but the teaching moments that have happened outside of the classroom have also been very impactful for me. Winning championships in Rugby and Volleyball was very exciting, as well as seeing my dream of bringing the First Robotics Canada (FRC) program to CDS. Seeing the students step out onto the FRC playing field for the first time on February 28, 2014 with the robot that we worked so hard to build together is definitely high up on my list of memorable moments.

Favourite Thing about Working at CDS:
Working alongside teachers who love what they do, and engaging with many interesting, capable and passionate students. It’s also really amazing to work at a place that invests resources to be able to run competitive and hands-on Robotics programs.

What is one of your life goals? To have an impact for good on the people around me.

Outside of CDS I’m … A very busy Dad and family man, coach, and chauffeur. When I have spare time, I also love woodworking and repairing broken electronics.

Hometown: I grew up in Scarborough, but I have called Bradford home for the last 14 years.
